Not really, but I do need help. A friend has a 2003 Camry. I know what your thinking, thats the problem right there. well the car exists and we need to fix it for now. Just after starting up the car stalls out. Our leading are a dirty intake system, dirty fuel lines, fuel pump. What do you guys think?

edit : apparently this has been going on for a while. After a few tries it won;t stall out and drives, however it is getting more frequent.

Keep it simple. I’ve had many Camry’s come to me with that same issue. I’d start with disconneting the battery and cleaning the throttle body and air flow senson (once it cools down). Basically it’s going to relearn idle after that. Very common on that gen Camry. Those V6 came in manuals you know. Not problem to “fix” there. 100% would hoon

Could it be the alternator maybe?

Is it turning over quickly? How old are his spark plugs or his battery?

is that getting around the real issue tho? I’ve never tuned a throttle body so that would be....a challenge I supose.

The idle doesn’t adapt well on those as the TB and air meter get dirty. Once you put the battery back on, let it run for a like 15 minutes. Turn it off and drive it very lightly then park it. Repeat idle and runs for about 6 drive cycles. Do not spray TB cleaner directly into TB. Use a wet rag.

apparently this has been going on for a while. After a few tries it won;t stall out and drives, however it is getting more frequent. I see what your saying. I was thinking i’d have to adjust screws like in a carb. if I disassemble the intake can I clean the TB and mass air flow sensor? ((i’m guessing thats what your refering to right?)

First thing to try... use your other key. It could be that the battery inside the key being used is dead. And that means it doesn’t see it as a valid key. An ‘invalid’ key will often let the car start, run a little and then die.

If it’s not that, then read these links:

i’d think there would be other issues like dimming lights or something

Oh I didn’t read that properly!

I saw it as “jump starting” now “just after starting”

I’d check the spark plugs first

not me. I saw a sedan version today, black and everything. I gave a wave and my wife rolled her eyes and mumbled something to the window.

Great cars. My buddy has a ‘14 Premium sedan, he let me drive it the first day he got it and I did my best Ken Block impression jumping it on a gravely hill. Don’t think I’ve driven it since then.

Correct.

Disconnect Battery

Remove the air box.

Remove air flow sensor

Remove TB

Douse a shop rag with carb cleaner fluid and clean throttle body. Do not spray cleaner directly into throttle body.

Once cold, spray the glass element inside the air flow meter.

Once everything is dry, go back with everything. Make sure everything it fit well.

Install battery

Perform the calibration drive cycles i wrote above.

Very easy procedure if car has no check engine light or at the worst, a P0300 random multiple misfire code
